Richard played clarinet in our New Horizons band and in my clarinet ensemble at Baldwin Wallace. He was the nicest soul and always brought the life to our rehearsals! He was one of our very best musicians and will be missed dearly.

I was a music education student at Baldwin Wallace, learning how to be a band director. I met Richard at New Horizons Band at BW. He was one of the warmest, kindest people that I’d met from that group. He was always willing to help the college students and was always a good sport. He was also one of the best clarinet players I had ever known! It was a bright spot of my week when I got to see him and spend time with him each Wednesday. He will be missed by many.

Dear Vasicek Family,
I was Richard's Band Director at the New Horizons Program. He captured my heart from the first time I met him with his warm smile, hardy laugh and delightful sense of humor. I have wonderful memories of him playing in band and his performance at a Band Camp Talent Show at the University of Dayton. I was stunned the night he performed in front of the entire camp with his string of hilarious jokes and incredible polka music performance. We never knew that he was a polka music player - he told us his friends called him "Fast Richard"! When I was diagnosed with cancer 8 years ago, he sent me a card indicating that he had a special blessing said on my behalf - he was a wonderful man and we all loved him very much. I am SO grateful to have gotten to be his friend. I am so sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Laura Joss

We are part of a small baroque ensemble at Tri C; Richard played with us a few years ago. He was a wonderful man and a fine musician. We know his family will miss him. Shortly before he stopped coming to Tri C East to be part of the group, he indicated he wanted to learn something about playing the piano and accepted the small learner's book I had. He was one of the those people who are happy learning and becoming more...

I worked with Dick back in the 1960's on the SERT 2 Project at NASA. The SERT 2 spacecraft was a path finder for electric propulsion commonly used on spacecraft today. February third of this year was the 50th anniversary of the SERT 2 launch. I very fondly remember working with Dick operating ion engines in the large vacuum chambers at NASA. He was a very special person to work with, and will never forget his friendship and almost constant smile.
