Ferol Lee Hauptman

Born: January 28, 1928 Died: September 12, 2010

Ferol was born in Cahose, New York, of her parents Craig Castle Brawner and his wife, Ida Lee Duensing, the third of four children.

In early childhood, her family moved to Helena, Montana, where her father and mother ran a bakery. After several years there, her parents had the opportunity to purchase a bakery in Great Falls, Montana, so they moved there. As she grew up she regularly helped out in the bakery before and after school. In high school she majored in art and, with another student, designed and painted a large mural at Malstrom Air Force Base east of Great Falls.

She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1946, and then attended Montana State College at Bozeman for a few months. However, she lost interest in college after meeting and going steady with Vicar August Hauptman, who was, at the time, missionary to the deaf in Montana. They were married on June 29, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Falls. This union was blessed with nine children, four boys and five girls.

She assisted her husband in serving four different deaf mission fields: • Spokane, Washington and Montana, 1948-1959 • Minnesota, 1959-1970 • Northwestern Ohio, 1971-1978 and • Los Angeles, 1978-1988.

After raising the children, she again took up her art work. Her paintings were greatly admired by fellow artists as she won many awards at various art shows.

She is survived by her husband, August; a sister, Frances Brockes of Great Falls, Montana; a brother, Craig Brawner, Jr., of Bozeman, Montana; eight children, Ida Baker of Torrance, CA; Sarah Fanucchi of Santa Monica, CA; George Hauptman of Sacramento, CA; Martin Hauptman of Northridge, CA; Jane Rodriguez of Monrovia, CA; Ted Hauptman of Vancouver, B.C.; Elizabeth Bunnell of McKinney, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Her body will be laid to rest at Westminster Memorial Park, there to await the glorious coming of our Lord and Savior, who will raise the dead and give eternal life to all believers.

Dear Pastor August and family;
Both Jane and I enjoyed short, but deep memories with Ferol. While single as a past member at Pilgrim Lutheran Deaf Church in LA, Jane appreciated Ferol's kindness and cheerfulness. On my many out of state visits, Ferol admire me with her contagious warmth and deep love for deaf people. God richly bless her many years sharing her faith and talents. Grace and Peace we have in our resurrected Jesus Christ, with whom Ferol will find her promised heavenly comfort.

Dear Augie,

Your beloved Ferol went to rest in the arms of the Heavenly Shepherd just 2 days after my beloved Carol went to rest in His arms. Possibly they are signing to each other in Heaven.

Yours, and His,

Dear August:
God wondrously bless Ferol throughout her lifetime. She deeply enjoyed her art. She also deeply enjoyed the love you shared with each other and with your children and their families
The Deaf enjoyed her and they thanked God that she shared you with the Deaf throughout your long ministry.
May God comfort you with the sure knowledge that as His son rose from the dead so shall Ferol.

I will always remember the first time I met Ferol at the Ladies Tea at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She was such a joy to chat with. She made me feel like a part of the church family and the Hauptman family. Ida Baker is so much like her. Ferol will be missed.

Ida and family,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. May you dwell on the happy times you spent together and know that your mother is in a better place. Take care. You are on my mind.
