He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marylene, sister Georgette, brother Al, daughter Lynn (+Donald), sons Michael (+Rita) and Christopher (+Jennifer), 10 beautiful grandchildren, and all his dear nieces and nephews.
He enlisted in the US Navy Reserve in 1947, where he was trained in aviation. Tony participated in the Korean war, serving on the USS Bon Homme Richard, as an Aircraft Line Maintenance Mechanic and honorably discharged in 1951.
When Tony returned from the war, he was offered training for the job that his deceased father vacated, in order to support his family financially. He spent the rest of his working life in that role of a pattern marker/grader in the garment district in Manhattan. He retired at 77 years old, in 2006.
He was a perfectionist. He was also talented and confident, taking on home construction, car repair, aviation, architectural design, pencil sketch artistry and other areas of interest, without formal training in most of these endeavors. For example, he personally nearly doubled the living space of our family home.
As Georgette tells the story, for a particularly large gathering at his family home in 1952, he built benches in the basement so that they had enough seating for everyone, which he finished on time. However, he slept through that party, due to exhaustion.
He spent the final years of his life enjoying his grandchildren, being the general handyman of the extended family. He is known for his kindness, generosity, strong work ethic and quiet sense of humor.
The family welcomes those who wish to help celebrate his life on Friday, February 17th, 10-11am for his wake, followed by Mass at 11am at Our Lady Mother of the Church in Woodcliff Lake. The interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY.
We want to thank the Woodcliff Lake Police Department, Valley Hospital Hospice Group and all of our nearby friends who helped us so much in these last few years. And we are especially grateful to his health aides, Fabby and Estephanie, who were instrumental in providing comfort, sustenance and loving support during that time.
In lieu of flowers, we have requested that donations be made predominantly to the Syrian Church in order to aid victims of the recent earthquake, https://www.churchinneed.org/anthony-djamoos.
