Doris Mae (Cerwonka) Patrizzi, 91, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 62 years of the late Gaetano “Buddy” Patrizzi, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on November 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John Cerwonka and Rachel (Rowlands) Cerwonka Ponting. Doris graduated from Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre and moved to Connecticut soon after where she worked at Aetna Life and Casualty and met her future husband. After raising four children, she returned to the workforce and would retire from The Travelers after 25 years of dedicated service.
The daughter of a coal miner, Doris had a strong work ethic and a sure sense of self and instilled in her family the need to act with integrity. She was active in her faith as a long-time parishioner of the Wethersfield United Methodist Church. Doris enjoyed traveling and took great pleasure in many family vacations. For many years, she also joined her husband with pride at many state and national Elks Club conventions.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Doris will be forever missed by her four children: Susan Beard of Newington, Michael J. Patrizzi and wife Anna of East Granby, Mark Patrizzi of Broad Brook and Stephen Patrizzi and wife Gillian of Hartford; five adored grandchildren, Michael Beard, Jennifer Sullivan and husband Tom, Michael G. Patrizzi, John H. Patrizzi, and Kathryn C. Patrizzi and two cherished great-grandchildren, Rachel Sullivan and Molly Sullivan.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Annette Shea, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her husband, parents and stepfather, Doris was predeceased by her sister, Lois Ziller.
The Funeral Service will be Friday, January 19 at 11 a.m. at the Wethersfield United Methodist Church, 150 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Attendees are asked to please go directly to the church. A burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
