Santo C. Rovella, 91, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 49 years of the late Rosemary C. (Hagan) Rovella, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 7, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Born in Hartford on April 10, 1927 and raised in Wethersfield, he was the son of the late Corrado “Jimmy” and Giovanina “Jennie” (Tumillo) Rovella. Santo attended the former Admiral Billard Military Academy in New London and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. Santo retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 35 years of service. He was a member of UNICO National, Hartford Chapter, B.P.O.E. (Elks Club) and the Boys Club of Italy. Santo was gifted with the ability to fix almost anything. He loved staying busy, tinkering in his shed, on his cars or on his patio. Above all else, Santo treasured his time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family meals were a joy to him. A quiet, gentle, reserved man with a wonderful sense of humor, Santo offered simple advice and words of wisdom to his family. Santo was brave and courageous throughout his entire life. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be forever missed by his three children and their spouses, Rosellyn Giampietro and husband Charles of Old Saybrook, James Rovella and wife Sandra of Old Saybrook and Mary Duffy and husband Sean of Wethersfield; ten adored grandchildren, Francis Giampietro and wife Dahnya, Matthew Giampietro and wife Jenni, Dominic Giampietro, Genevieve Giampietro, Chiara Giampietro, Daniel Rovella and wife Caitlin, Marc Rovella and wife Lauren, Megan Duffy, Kelsey Rose Duffy and Sean Bailey Duffy and two cherished great-grandchildren, Callie Rovella and Preston Rovella. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Pricone. Special thanks to Cedar Mountain Commons, Jefferson House, Visiting Angels and Franciscan Hospice Care for their loving care of Santo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (March 12) at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, (Corpus Christi Church), 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. I’m so fortunate to have had the opportunity to share time through the years with the Rovella family. Never missing from all the time together was the joy of watching Mr. Rovella’s ear to ear smiles from time spent with his family and a nice glass of homemade red wine too. So sorry for your loss, we will miss your dad. God bless. The Valente’s
