Benjamin Charles Dodt, 26, of Denver, formerly of McHenry, Ill., died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. Ben was born June 3, 1984, in Mt. Prospect, Ill., to Bruce and Esther Dodt. He graduated in 2002 from McHenry High School-West Campus. Ben was awarded a full-ride scholarship as an Evans Scholar in 2002 and attended the University of Missouri. He graduated in 2006 with an engineering degree.
Ben married Kate Hooley, of Stillwater, Minn., on August 8, 2009, in Boulder, Colo. He loved everything about Colorado’s outdoors, enjoying skiing on powder days, hiking 14ers, mountain biking and camping with friends. Ben had a keen talent for sports and loved to play hockey, golf, tennis and basketball. He worked as an engineer with Knight Piesold in Denver. Ben will be greatly missed and celebrated by those who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kate; parents, Bruce and Esther (neé Dikelsky); sister, Gwendolyn (Shawn) Parsin; parents-in-law, Mike and Amy Hooley; brothers-in-law, Joe, Ted and Kevin; grandparents, Owen and Claudette Dodt, and Samuel (Helene-deceased) Dikelsky; lots of loving relatives and many, many dear friends.
A memorial gathering will be held 5-8 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Folsom Field Stadium Club at Colorado Ave. and Folsom St., Boulder. Parking is available in lot number 360. A service in McHenry will follow later this month.
Memorials are preferred to The Benjamin Dodt Rocky Mountain Fund, which will honor Ben by supporting the Evans Scholar Foundation, Denver area charities and conservation causes.
