James “Michael” Gibson, August 4, 1944 to February 5, 2019, resident of Denver, CO, after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer, Michael passed away peacefully in Hospice at Lutheran Hospice in Wheat Ridge, CO with the amazing support of his wife, Janice, of 34 years, seven children, Michael Gibson, Kelly Gibson, Shannon Hitchcock, Bob Gibson, Renee Kennedy, Ryan Roberts, and Aaron Roberts, each of their spouses, his 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother Jack Gibson, and first wife of 20 years, Patricia (Hildebrandt) Gibson.

Born in St Louis, Missouri, to the late Rose Luann Holloran (Gibson), from Pueblo, Colorado and father, Clifford James (Bud) Gibson from St Louis, when at the age of three days old his father returned home and declared that he was no longer to be called James or Jim, but “Mike”, followed six years later, on Father’s Day 1951, his Father passing way. He held the professions of Quartermaster 3rd class, active duty, for the United States Navy during Vietnam, Tax Accountant, of his own business, In Home Tax Service for 46 years, minister of the Gospel, in a variety of leadership roles, for nearly 30 years, and Senior Pastor of Philadelphia Church in Commerce City, CO, for the past nearly four years; with a personal salvation experience in 1977 when he cried out to God, “If You’re real please reveal yourself to me,” at which time, God did and Mike made a public profession of Christ shortly afterward, followed six years later with him receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and two years later his new life commitment to God and Family becoming the dominant themes of his life (of course, the concept of family for Mike included all his friends, congregations, ministry partners and tax clients), with which he pursued the rest of his life, with passion, purpose, and Christ-like transformation until his final breath.

Forever Mike will be remembered by all those whoever met him for his Love of God and Others. Since marrying Janice he became a teacher in the church, Associate Pastor of Grace Church and Pastor of Philadelphia Church. In 1996, Mike became a published author and subsequently authored 20 other books and numerous articles on Christianity. However, the focus of his life was to create a discipleship process based on what Jesus commanded His disciples to do. This is the “Great Commission” found in Matthew 28, verses 19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I command you.” Beta testing of the discipleship process began in 2006. Full implementation began in earnest early in the year of 2016 and had good success with it. The 56 teaching lessons covering Jesus’ 263 commands in a three-book teaching series called, “A Journey with Jesus” (They are currently in book form, on USB drives and in CD set format). Currently, he has training centers in Denver and Colorado Springs, CO, Spokane, WA, Powell, WY, Mesa, AZ, Sunrise Beach, MO, Spring Valley, NY, Bogota, Columbia, two townships in Durban, South Africa and Bawanipatna, India. Soon the ministry will begin partnering with “Bibles for The World” to reach bible colleges in northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma and China who will assist us in teaching and translation work within those areas. In addition, to the discipleship centers, Mike also started several ministries: Spirit and Truth in 1994, Key2Changes in 2016 and most recently A Message from God!

Mike touched the lives of many people with his heart for the Lord. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, February 13th, 2019, at 1 pm at Redeemer Temple, 3701 W. 64th Avenue, Arvada, CO 80003.

We have so many memories. We fell in love with Mike the first time we heard him teach on the commands of Jesus. He and Jan nurtured us and helped us grow in our Faith. We loved our New Years Dinners together. Our sweetest memory was last time we saw Mike and Jan and sang around the piano! We miss you and love you and are honored to call you our friend! Love Cathy and Keith

It's hard to put into words how I feel with loosing Uncle Mike. Loosing a part of your family is never easy but knowing that he is now with our Lord makes the pain less hard. I loved going to Uncle Mike anytime to ask spiritual questions as I was learning my faith and it has really helped when times have gotten a little difficult. I know that family gatherings will not be the same but he will always be there in spirit.
I love you Uncle Mike and will miss you, I wish I could be there with everyone.
