Richard “Rick” was born February 9, 1942 in Evanston, Illinois to Robert F. and Ruth Adams. Most of his childhood was spent in Glen Ellyn, Illinois with summer breaks in Wapacca Wisconsin at the family cabin which his father designed and built. Also in the summer the family took a trip which took them to camping destinations throughout the United States. It was on one of those trips that he decided to one day live in Colorado. Rick graduated from Glenbard High School in 1960. He attended Iowa State University studying biochemistry and psychology and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Rick did do the course work for his classes, but he also spent much time painting, drawing and running. In 1963 he left Iowa State to attend the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1964 he joined the Army and served as a member of the Army Security Agency during the Vietnam War. Stationed in Hokkaido, Japan he took every opportunity to explore the country on foot with camera in hand. After his discharge he spent time in Florida before returning to the Art Institute of Chicago. In August of 1972 he moved to Idaho Springs. 1978 was the year he met Susan in Colorado Springs. They were married in August of 1982 surrounded by friends and family.
An Artist and prolific photographer his entire life Rick served as the Art Director of Saxon Mountain Gallery; with Blackwell Oil Company; as a commercial janitor; as a member of the Clear Creek School District Accountability committee; as a founding member of the Rock House Board.
