Margaret Jeanne “Peggy” Bendel, 74, of Island Heights, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at home, surrounded by her family. She was a consummate writer and editor and was a superb seamstress and artistic quilter. She was a gifted pianist and organist who loved cooking and gardening. She was the Director of Music at, and a member of, Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting. She was known for her intelligence and wit. Born in Lancaster, PA, she resided in Bogota, NJ for many years before coming to Island Heights in 1995. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John Bendel, her daughter Berne Bendel, and her son Thomas Bendel and his wife, Lisa. Peggy is also survived by her sister, Nancy Bischoff and her husband, Dave, as well as three nephews.
Friends and family will gather on Monday, January 21 at 12:00pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting, NJ for a Celebration of Life, followed by a repast. Committal will follow.
