Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 12, 2020 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park.
Mamie was born November 1, 1928 in Negley, Red River County, Texas. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Ernest and Annie Williams. She moved to Detroit, Texas at an early age where she graduated from Detroit High School with honors. She married Clyde O. Winters on March 4, 1950 and moved to Amarillo in 1952, where she helped her husband operate Southwest Radio and TV School. She moved to Wichita Falls in 1965. She graduated from Draughn’s Business College as an accountant and worked for several accounting firms. She was a member of Lamar Baptist Church. She served as Treasury of the Benevolent, Patriotic Order of Does Drove #154 for 5 years from 1990 to 1995.
Mamie loved to do standup comedy, poking fun at herself. When her husband was E.R. of Elks Lodge 1105, she helped raise a lot of funds for charity with her comedy routines. Most notable were Adorable, Shirley Pimple, Topless Hula Dancer, and Pet Monkey. She was also the first Sweetheart of Elks Lodge #1105.
Mamie also loved to write and wrote a book A Mind Full of Memories in which she related her early years growing up during the Great Depression. She wrote a cookbook filled with all the family favorites and she also loved to write poetry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde O. Winters, who passed away on November 19, 1996, her daughter, Carole Ann, who passed away on November 14, 1985 and her son, David Lee, who passed away on April 20, 2018.
She is survived by her son, Claude A. Winters and wife Sharon of Woodbridge, Virginia and her daughter, Merry Winters Bevill and husband Rodney of Mesa, Arizona; 6 grandchildren: Wendy Bevill O’Neal and husband John of Mesa Arizona, Monica Winters Martin and husband Brian of Melbourne, Florida, Cheryll Winters Jones and husband Stephen of Iowa Park, Texas, Brian S. Winters and wife Jennifer of Woodbridge Virginia, Brenna Bevill Price and husband Bob of Fredericksburg, VA and Michael K. Winters of Decatur, TX, and 11 great-grandchildren.
