Summerhouse, Carla, died on April 3, 2018. Carla Jean Lindsey was born on April 12, 1952 in Port Angeles, Washington. She was raised in Raytown, Missouri, but moved to Wichita to be a support to her husband, Dennis as he set up a medical practice. Dennis was the one and only love of Carla’s life. Second only to Dennis, Carla loved animals; from her cats to her horses, to her burros. She was in every way a protector and champion of all animals, particularly those orphaned along the way. Carla leaves behind a legacy of love and tenderness to the animal world. Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 a.m. on Mon. Apr. 9, 2018 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. A memorial fund has been established at PETA. Please send contributions to: PETA, in memory of Carla Summerhouse, 501 Front Street, Norfolk, Virginia, 23510.

I was Carla's hairstylist for about the last ten years, every four weeks... she was a special lady, I'm going to miss my friend Carla. We shared some similarities like we were both only children and maybe a little particular... she would measure her hair but I tend to go over it and over it checking so I'm sure that's one of the reasons I was her hairstylist! We could be ourselves around each other, I loved that she was 'real' like that. I let her know when 'the human kids' would be getting out of school for breaks so she wouldn't leave the house and have to deal with that, lol. We'd smoke a cigarette together, i'd visit her at her home or she at mine several times when the salon wasn't an option due to injury or what have you... cut her grass a few times and she got me a $7 piece of carrot cake for my birthday one year that was to die for! She made me laugh, going to miss that. I love her front step at her home too! At least she can see her Dennis now.

She was my rock to lean on. I was her sounding board when she was having a bad day. I cared about Carla like you would care about family. She was very funny and would help you out in a pinch . Hopefully you are up there with Dennis and your many fur children having a blast!
