William "Bill" Glenn Eales Jr., 71, passed away May 20, 2018. Bill was born in Hobart OK, to William "Glenn" and Marjorie Eales May 22, 1946. He graduated high school in Hobart, OK and earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma University. In 1965, he met his wife, Marilyn Straub. They were married the summer of 1968, and lived in Norman, Oklahoma, while he finished his degree. Afterwards, they moved to Wichita and were blessed with their children, Jeffrey and Shanna.
Bill began his working career with KG&E in Wichita, KS. When the planning of the Wolf Creek nuclear power plant began, he was transferred to that project. After 25 years and the closure of the east Wichita office, Bill moved his family to Ottawa, KS, to continue his work on the power plant. In 2004, he retired after 35 years with the same company. While living in Ottawa, he was very involved in Faith Lutheran Church and was instrumental in the planning and building of their new church home.
In January of 2010, Bill brought his family home to Wichita and rejoined his Church family at Ascension Lutheran and their many friends. He immediately became a full time office volunteer at the church. He served in many capacities including: singing in both the Sanctuary Choir and the 4Given quartet, running the sound system for church services, he served on the board of Deacons, and has been the financial secretary for many years.
Bill had a passion for music. He played the organ, piano, and loved singing. He and Marilyn loved traveling to Southern Gospel concerts around the country. He could often be found with his headphones on listening to all types of music on his computer. Most of all he loved his Lord, his family and spending time with his grandkids. Bill was a faithful, compassionate, kind and caring man. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Bill was preceded by his parents; sister, Polly and her husband, Joe Snyder. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Marilyn; his children, Jeffrey and Shanna, grandkids, Ashton, Aulora, Ryan and Jonathan; three nieces, one nephew, as well as many dear friends.
His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thurs. May 24, 2018 at Ascension Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 842 N. Tyler Rd. Wichita, KS 67212.
