Ronald “Ron” C. Guthrie Williamston, MI

Ron was born September 22, 1946 to Ronald Clarence Guthrie Sr. and the late Joann Marie (Schultz) and passed away February 18, 2018 at age 71. Ron is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Helen Guthrie; mother Joann Albertson; and dad Richard “Dewy” Albertson. He is survived by his daughter, Tina (David) Clendenan; son, Tim (Robin) Guthrie; daughter, Melissa (Tom) Green; grandchildren, Shealynn, Katelyn, Kyle, Lilly, Neenah, Kyle, Adam and Dane; great-grandchild, Tessa; father, Ronald C. Guthrie Sr.; sisters, Vicki (Mike) Terrell, Pam (Thom) Harke; brother, Richard (Dorcas) Albertson; sister-in-law, Sue (Dave) Lusty; and brother-in-law, John (Kathie) Thomas. Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a boss to some but an unwavering friend to many. Ron started working in the grocery business at the age 16. Over the next 25 years through his dedication and work ethic he ascended to general manager of Felpausch Food center in Williamston. In 1992, he purchased Fairview Corners party store in Mason, MI where he was fixture behind the counter doing business “the right way”. He provided his customers a good product at a fair price that would come with a firm handshake or a hug, but always a smile. Ron enjoyed the game of golf. Whether it was league night with his brother, Father’s Day with the family, or Kentucky with his sons, the time spent together was more valuable to him than the scorecard. Over 40 years ago, Ron and Helen purchased a cottage as a weekend getaway. Ron was at peace here. He loved sharing the lake with family and friends. Watching the kids swim, fireworks on the 4th of July, and morning coffee watching the still water were precious to him. He was never happier however than driving the slow boat around the lake cruising the shoreline. We will forever miss our captain, our boss, our golf partner, our friend, our grandpa, our brother, and our Dad. Funeral service will be held Friday February 23, 2018 at Williamston Free Methodist Church, 4400 N. Williamston Road at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the church. Pastor Doug Bradshaw will be officiating.

Charlie and I were saddened by the news of Ron's passing. He was always so friendly and warm to his customers. We moved away from Mason ten years ago and yet stopping into the store and having Ron smiling from behind the counter was a little like returning home. He is missed.

I'm going to miss Ron. I always looked forward to stopping into his store, grabbing a coffee, and exchanging our daily dose of ribbing and insults, (mutual affection). Walked out of that door 99% of the time with a big smile on my face. The other 1% is only because we discussed some serious topics too. I just feel fortunate to have known him!
