I first met Mrs. Sodus as a seventh grader at Maryvale Junior High School; she was my social studies teacher. She was the first teacher with whom I had a personal relationship in that I could talk to her as a friend, not simply an adult who was my teacher. Those memories of our talks never left me as I went on to become a teacher myself and strove to become more than just the adult in the room (like Mrs. Sodus) to my own students. I felt extremely lucky a couple years ago, after having retired from 30+ years of teaching, to reconnect with Mrs. Sodus on Facebook and was able to tell her of her effect on me. I hope that what I shared with her meant as much to her as when my own students shared similar feelings with me. Rest In Peace Mrs. Sodus. You lived a good and valuable life. You will be sorely missed here on Earth, but never forgotten by the hundreds of students whose lives and hearts you touched in your classroom.

Working with Florence in several musicals with Kastle Productions at Lancaster Opera House left joyful memories for me and my Escapades Ensemble students. Her effervescent personality, her kindness, her love for music lifted us all to greater heights in those stage productions.

A hearty round of applause to Florence for a life well lived. May she now sing and dance with the angels!

Dennis so sorry for your loss. Linda and I always enjoyed our conversations with Florence whenever we were home in Buffalo. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the kids. Ted and Linda Blizniak Blake.

Florence Sodus, esteemed teacher, actress, mother, and traveler lived her life with passion. She expired surrounded by family and friends who adored her on Sunday 12/30/2018.

Florence went to grammar school at St. Adalbert's on Buffalo’s East side. She graduated magna cum laude from Buffalo State in 1953. A teacher by profession she taught for seven years at the Brighton school and then at Maryvale middle school, from 1953-1992. Her passion was teaching social studies to seventh and eighth graders. She even traveled to teach English to Ukrainian children for the Bridges to Education organization.
She was a proud member Alpha Sigma Tau, serving in all executive positions. Florence had devoted friendships with her sisters lasting over sixty years.
The yellow rose was the symbol of AET and her favorite flower.

A lifelong passion for Florence was singing; she started singing in a choir at the age of eight. She was still in the choir at St. Gregory the Great until her passing. She was an active performer in Kastle Productions and sang with Ars Nova. Florence was a member of the Buffalo Choral Arts Society. They frequently traveled to Europe, a highlight of her choir membership was performing at Norte Dame in Paris.

She was very involved in the Amherst Senior Center and was known as a brilliant and devoted member/leader of the current events group. She appreciated the group, for its knowledgeable, and civil discourse.

Florence Mary Sodus (nee Kuczma) married Dennis Anthony Sodus in 1956 and enjoyed many camping trips with their children, and later often took cruises with friends. Her love of her children Mary Beth and David was demonstrated every day, in her generosity and good counsel.
She is survived by daughter Mary Beth and son David, and spouse Dennis.

With Florence, every day was an opportunity to make a new friend and have an adventure. She was a true extrovert who enjoyed brightening everyone’s day. Her passion for life serves as a lesson for all of us, to reach out and make friends with the world. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday Jan 3rd at St. Gregory the Great RC Church.
