OBITUARY

Reva Z. Sherman

August 24, 1926October 3, 2012

Reva Zlotnik Sherman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully on Oct. 3rd in Tucson, AZ. Born in Chicago on Aug. 24, 1926, she was the youngest of six children of Russian immigrants, Dora and Harry Zlotnik. She was married to Gerald M. Sherman on June 11, 1947, her death ending a loving marriage of 65 years. Reva graduated from Chicago's Von Steuben High School in 1944 and received a bachelors degree from Chicago's Roosevelt University, while raising her five children: Harriet (partner, Ernie Dunn) Moser of Phoenix, Ira (Nancy) of Denver, Hess (Sharon) of Chicago, Annette (Bob) Landry of Albuquerque and Neal of Los Angeles. She and Gerry also have seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many adoring nieces and nephews. Reva was a generous, intelligent woman who gave selflessly to her family and community. She touched numerous lives with compassion, clear thinking and enthusiasm. Like a second mom, so many people relied on Reva for helpful advice and encouragement. Her special passion for over 57 years was being a Girl Scout troop leader and mentor to new scout leaders. Reva was an active member in the Jewish community and contributor to many charitable organizations. She loved dancing and the outdoors, becoming a docent at the Arizona Sonora Museum and Sabino Canyon after relocating to Tucson in the early 1980s. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held at Weinstein Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette, IL at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9th. Burial is at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Hillside, IL immediately following. A memorial service will be held in Tucson at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to the charity of your choice with notification to: Gerald Sherman 6840 E. We just learned of Reva's passing and we are extremely saddened. Reva was/is family to all of us here at the Radisson Suites. We are going to miss having her come by and share lunches and her time with us with stories of her wonderful family. She kept us up to date with all of your exciting lives! She was so proud of all of you and really lit up when she spoke of you. We are and have always been grateful to call her family here. Her laughter and huge smile are infectious. We are so sorry for your loss.

Dear Uncle Gerry, Harriet, Ira, Hessy, Annette and Neal. I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Reva was a wonderful, loving, gracious, sexy legged lady! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you grieve. If it helps...I do know one thing...my mom was one of the first in the receiving line.

Mrs. Sherman was like my second grandma. As a child, we used to head on over next door and hang out with the Shermans all the time. I have so many fond memories: you know, I drank my first bottle of orange Crush with Mrs. Sherman. I was also pleased to hear she was wearing her glittery nail polish at Devin's wedding. I'll miss her and Mr. Sherman deeply, and I know many people will.

My deepest condolences to all of Reva's loved ones. I have such wonderful memories of her growing up. I always enjoyed going to her home where I was loved and made to feel a part of her immediate family. My mother always had the nicest things to say about this great lady with that beautiful smile. She was "cool" before there was "cool".
