John "Bill" Williams

John E. “Bill” Williams, 90, of Elm City passed away Saturday. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2020, in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Elm City, NC.
Due to social distancing protocols, Bill’s family will not be present, but friends that would like to pay their respects may do so between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, 2704 Nash St. N, Wilson, NC.
Bill developed his lifelong passion for aviation when he was a child and obtained his pilot’s license at the age of 16. He loved flying his plane, “Champ”, and was actually flying until just a few years ago. Bill loved his family and the time spent with them. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. “Fly high now, Flyboy!”
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Hackney Williams; two daughters, Charlotte Williams of Wilson and Phyllis Sanders (Brian) of Wilson; two step-daughters, Faye Sykes (John) of Rocky Mount and Gail Hackney of Elm City; and one stepson, Lee Hackney Williams (Sandra) of Chesapeake, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ervin and Nettie Mae Bottoms Williams.
