Winifred S Hartsock

June 13, 1929June 25, 2018

Winifred ("Winni") Blanche Smith Hartsock, aged 89, died on June 25, 2018 in her home in Winter Park, Florida.

Winni was born June 13, 1929 in Lake City, Florida, to Marcus Clarence Smith and Blanche Carter Smith. She attended schools in Lake City and graduated from Columbia High School, later attending junior college and earning her AA Degree, and then supporting herself as a legal secretary. She later moved to Maitland, Florida with her first husband, Richard William Barrett.

Her middle-aged and senior years were spent in involvement with the University Club of Winter Park, the Winter Park Women's Club, the Florida House on Capitol Hill, the Morse Museum of Art, the Orlando Museum of Art, the Town Club of Winter Park, Maitland Presbyterian Church, and other civic endeavors. She had a lifelong love of art and beauty, and was considered a great beauty herself, with her beautiful platinum blonde hair, her wit, and her great sense of style. She and her second husband, Virgil Leroy Hartsock, were instrumental in forming the Stephen Ministry Program at Maitland Presbyterian Church, and also spearheaded the formation of the church's Memorial Garden. She and Virgil, having married in their senior years, had a great time traveling and volunteering with the church, and enjoyed their last years in their lovely apartment in The Mayflower Senior Retirement Center.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Georgia Eugenia Smith Schenk, her first husband, Richard William Barrett, her stepson, Richard Dwight Barrett, and her second husband, Virgil Leroy Hartsock.

She is survived by her two stepdaughters, Lorraine E. Dales and Linda Hartsock-Kegley, both of Orlando, and the following cousins: Patricia Becker Oles of Orlando, Barbara Becker Wilson of Georgia, Charles Becker of California, and Harvey Lee Simpson, Jr. of Georgia, as well as other extended family members and a great many friends in Central Florida and beyond.

The family suggests that for those who wish to do so, memorial gifts In Memory of Winifred Hartsock may be directed to Maitland Presbyterian Church, 341 North Orlando Avenue, Maitland, Florida 32751, for the Stephen Ministry Program.
