She is survived by her son Craig and his wife Michelle and grandsons Cadence and Jacob, and son Trevor; her brother Boyd and his wife Pat, and nieces Kelly and Kristen Finkas; Kelly’s boys: Sasha, Blaze and Cash Bear and Kristen’s son Jaxon; her brother Rick and his wife Betty Metzler and nephew Russ and wife Amy Burton and their children Riley and Liv, and nephew Luc and Erica Burton and their children Emma, Owen and Chloe; sister-in-law Betty Parley and her husband Vic Greenlaw and sister-in-law Linda and Murray McGeough and nephew Kevin McGeough and his wife Elizabeth Galway and their daughter Lucy, niece Kristina McGeough and spouse Sean Durnin and her long companion special four-legged friend Bailey, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Janet was born on September 5, 1946 in Broadview, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest daughter of Rudolph and Adeline Metzler. Janet grew up in the Edenland area and Kipling, Saskatchewan. After Grade 12, she studied nursing at the Grey Nun’s Hospital in Regina. She worked there until 1969 when she met and married James Parley on October 18, 1969 in the Kipling United Church.

She worked as a nurse at the Wolseley Care home and as a homecare nurse and retired from nursing while working at the Willowdale Lodge in Kipling. Her career spanned five decades and she truly loved working with the elderly. Many of the nurses who cared for her also worked with her – some she even hired. She left a lasting impression on staff and many residents.

She raised her two sons on the farm in Peebles. In 1992, she moved into Windthorst and settled into her final home in 1994.

She was a member of the Windthorst Horticultural Club, the Friendship Centre, the Alzheimer’s Support Group and the United Church. She canned fruits and vegetables and enjoyed baking and cooking for community and family. Her butter tarts were well known and a treat. She was generous with her time donating to many community and church events. She was an avid crafter and loved to make her own cards.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Kipling and District Health Foundation, Box 989, Kipling, SK S0G 2S0, please put in the memo line "Activities" or to the Windthorst Cemetery, c/o June Johnson, Box 66, Windthorst, SK S0G 5G0.

Rick, Boyd, and families:
I was saddened to hear of Janet’s passing. I remember her well from when our families grew up as neighbours in Kipling. I recall her being a very friendly, happy, and kind person. I am sure the nursing profession benefited a great deal from Janet’s caring personality. Mary and I are sorry for your loss.
