Sherry Ziegler

March 1, 1952May 10, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce God has gained another angel. On May 10, 2021, at the age of 69 years, Sherry lost her 9 year battle with cancer.

Predeceased by her parents, Frank and Anne Schneider and brothers-in-law Lawrence Sebastian, Gary Linnen and Wayne Linnen.

Sherry is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 50 years, Joe, son Darwin (Jackie) Ziegler, Zachary, Taylor Jacob; daughter Nicole (Dwayne) Hooper, Carley and Ryan, and son Troy (Mindy) Ziegler, Isaac, Nolan and Danica. As well as sister Laurie (Ken) Weichel, brother Ron Schneider, sisters-in-law Helen Sebastian, Louise Linnen, Josie Linnen as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sherry was born March 1, 1952. She married Joe Ziegler June 6, 1970. They had three children, Darwin born in 1971, Nicole in 1974 and Troy in 1976. Joe and Sherry lived in various locations until they made Odessa their home in 1974. In 1980, Sherry started her 32 year career with the Credit Union, retiring May 31, 2017. She loved visiting with all her customers at the credit union where she gained life long friendships. Sherry spent endless hours volunteering for the community, be it at the rink, Community hall, sports grounds or tractor pulls just to name a few. She was unconditionally supportive and proud of her husband, children and grandchildren. The one you could always count on for extra help and would drop everything to lend a hand, make some food or provide a listening ear.

Sherry loved her pets Rico, Casey and her grand pets too. It was nothing to see Sherry walking around Odessa with 3 dogs in hand. Sherry loved gardening and was proud of all the veggies she grew. I’m sure most had the pleasure of eating Sherry’s baking. She loved cooking for her family and her kitchen was always full of delicious food. You never left hungry. She was always cooking up big batches of perogies, cabbage rolls, soup and cinnamon buns to fill up her kids’ freezers.

She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan going from one event to the next. Her pride always showing as she cheered them on. Sherry also really enjoyed taking the grandkids for rips around Odessa on her golf cart. Sherry loved her yearly fishing trip with friends, her evenings out playing cards and having laughs. Sherry’s kind heart earned her many loyal friends. Her kind and generous sprit had a huge impact on everyone who came into contact with her and she was loved deeply in return. Though she is and will be missed always, her loving legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff from the Allan Blair Cancer Centre for the excellent care they gave Sherry over the years; and the care provided from the staff in Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sherry’s memory to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

Due to Covid restrictions the funeral service, which was held on May 15, 2021, was by invitation only.

Sincere Condolences Joe, Darwin, Nikki, Troy and families.

I am so sorry for your families loss. Though I was not blessed to have work with Sherry at the Credit Union, she was so kind and welcoming when I started working at the Odessa branch. I will think of her often she was a great asset to the Odessa Credit Union for so many years. I see her name almost every day that I work at the Odessa branch. Rest In Peace Sherry.

Love Dawn

Joe and family,

I met Sherry through our Credit Union connections and she always had a 'twinkle' to her eye and 'giggle' I will never forget. She was such an easy and fun person to get to know and I enjoyed working with her and considered her a friend also. She was an amazing woman and will be missed. Share all the stories and keeps their spirit alive forever!
