Olivia, or Ollie as she was known by her friends, was born on December 31, 1942 to Theodore and Katherine Glasgow in San Francisco, California. She was a city girl until she met and married Lorn Weitz, who moved her back to his native Washington, where they established their roots. At that time, they purchased a family farm, where she learned to love country life. While raising a family, Ollie perfected her cooking skills, kept an immaculate home and was supportive of her family’s interests and activities.
Her many interests included attending bible study and church services, playing weekly Bridge games, watching the Seahawks, and travelling. She also volunteered for a number church and local organizations.
Once her family was raised, Ollie discovered her passion for gardening, which she enjoyed daily. She broadened her knowledge by becoming a Master Gardener, being actively involved with the Yakima Area Arboretum and participating in Garden Club activities.
Ollie was married to Lorn for 35 years, before his passing. She then met Jerry Cox and was in a committed relationship with him until her passing. Together they spent 14 years loving and supporting each other and their respective families. For the last five years, Jerry unselfishly gave of himself, in any way possible, to help Ollie fight through her illness. Her family is forever grateful to him for his love and devotion.
Ollie is survived by her companion, Jerry Cox and his son, David Cox (Mandi); two daughters, Greta Smith (Mark) and Karen Gray (Chris), and three stepchildren, Stephen (Susan) Weitz, Randal (Judy) Weitz and Keri (Doug) Meyer; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Hannah) Weitz, Nichole Weitz, Alexander Weitz, Sarah Gray, Zachary Gray, Madelynne Smith and Collins Cox; and a great granddaughter, Jaelynn Weitz-Kirkpatrick. She is also survived by her brother, Theodore (Kathy) Glasgow.
Viewing will be at Keith and Keith Funeral Home Thursday, November 15, from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16, at 10 am, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Concluding services and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, followed by a luncheon at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, Ollie’s family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hospice and Home Care or Yakima Area Arboretum.
