William Albert Dopps passed away April 16, 2018. He was born July 23, 1923 in Yakima, WA to Orville Jacob Dopps and Edith Myrl (Moore) Dopps. His four older brothers were Lloyd, Ross, Forrest and Carl. He graduated from Yakima High in 1942 and married his high school sweetheart in November of the same year.
He worked as a machinist in Yakima and later in Seattle. Within a year, he was inducted into the Army, and served with General George Patton’s Third Army during five campaigns in the European Theater of War. Upon his discharge, he returned to Yakima with his wife, Beth. He became a firefighter and served with pride for nearly 27 years, retiring as a Captain. He and Beth enjoyed their retirement years, traveling to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beth, daughter Kathy Russo, son Dennis Dopps and his wife Leora, grandchildren Jim Worthington Jr., Wendi Dopps, Paddy Worthington, Becki Dopps, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from
1:00 – 5:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2018 at Rainier Memorial Center, 2807 Terrace Heights Drive, Yakima.
