Hartley Dyer Town

FREEPORT -Hartley D. Town, 81, passed away on March 9, 2018 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Hartley was born on July 9, 1936 in Berlin, NH the son of Ernest Town and Hazel (Dyer) Town.

Hartley graduated from Berlin High School in the class of 1954. He rarely missed a high school reunion to catch up with his classmates. He attended and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1960 with a degree in mechanical engineering. During his time at UNH he was enrolled in the General Electric Company’s apprentice program and went to work for GE upon graduation, where he worked for 36 years and retired in 1996.

In 1960, he married Brenda Dennison. Together they raised two sons. Hartley spent the summers coaching Little League baseball and boating on Casco Bay with his family and friends. Exploring the islands in the bay, fishing, and clamming at the Goslings were his favorite summer time activities. Peaks Island was the home base during the summer. Winters were spent in Rangeley and Carrabassett Valley skiing at Saddleback and Sugarloaf. There were several memorable trips to Alta, Utah to ski with family and friends. After his skiing days were over Hartley and Brenda spent many of the colder months in Punta Gorda, FL with many of their close northern friends nearby. Hartley was an avid sports fan, enjoying watching golf, the Celtics, the Patriots, and the Yankees…..yes the Yankees. Hartley was well known for his dry sense of humor, always drawing a good laugh. He could dead pan a one liner with the best of them.

In addition to his parents, Hartley is predeceased by his sister Shirley Rowe of Hampton, New Hampshire, and his son Andrew of Freeport. He is survived by his wife Brenda of Freeport, his son James Town and his wife Ann of North Yarmouth, his grandchildren Dylan Town of Durham and Cassidy Town of North Yarmouth, and his sister Esther Mitchell of Ogden, Utah. Hartley has many loving nieces, nephews, and family members from coast to coast.

The family would like to thank the care givers and physicians who helped Brenda care for Hartley during his long illness.

Service Announcement

A period of visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on June 2, 2018 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm. Interment will be private at a later date.
