Theodore I. Abend of Yonkers died on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, at age 88. Born on July 7, 1923 to Max and Ethel Abend in Orange, N.J., he was raised in the Bronx and attended PS 103 and Evander Childs H.S. He served his country during World War II, first as a clerk in the Army Air Forces and later as an infantryman. During action in Germany he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his discharge he attended and graduated from NYU. He worked as a supervisor for ADT in White Plains. A member of the Riverdale Y, Ted was a lifelong athlete and remained active until his recent illness. He is survived by his sister Rhoda Brown of Teaneck, N.J. and his nephew Trevor Brown of New York City. A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
