Words can't explain the pain I'm feeling but Rest in Love my brother. My best memories of us is when I'd come over and we'd spar, talk about our futures, I was always so happy for you when you met Susan....you'd found your missing puzzle piece....it’s never Goodbye just I'll see you later ❤ you my Brother 

My condolences to the family. Rey was well loved by his law enforcement family.  He always had a smile on his face and kind word for everyone.  We will miss him dearly, may God bless his beautiful family!

I am sad and heartbroken that you are no longer here with us physically. It still feels surreal. But I find peace and comfort knowing you are with the Lord and reunited with Dad. You were the best big brother ever! I will miss singing and being totally goofy with you. You always knew how to make us laugh!  One sweet day, we will be reunited and our family will all be together again...

Rey and I worked together for several years. It was always a pleasure to work with him. Rey was always smiling, he always had a kind word to share. I enjoyed talking with him. Rey treated everyone with kindness. He will be missed. He passed too soon. So young. But there is no more pain for Rey to deal with.  My prayers are for his family, that God will comfort you.  Rest easy, Rey, in the loving arms of our Savior.

Reynante has a special place in our childhood memories.  Our dads were in the Navy and the best of friends.  That meant a lot of get together’s with the Marientes family.  After food and more food, us kids would gather in one room.  Rey being the oldest sure had a lot to say.  He would tease us and make us laugh until it was time to go home. Once when it was his birthday he flashed us his roll of money wondering what he should buy.  He was so happy that night and we just knew whatever Rey bought was a birthday wish come true.  These childhood memories with Rey will always be cherished.

Sending heart felt condolences to all of the Marientes  family.  So many childhood and adolescent memories shared, family gatherings, picnics,  a friendly game of baseball.  Always smiling, ever attentive to those around him.  I will never forget his kind heart,  i’ll never forget his bravery escorting  me in a pageant (or 2) ...He definitely was/is knight in shining armor material.  May His perpetual light shine upon you Rey.  May God hold your family close and be with them. 

He was a face without a name... the guy with the unassuming, island vibe... I would occasionally pass him on my way in to the office, on my way out of the office, in the hall or stairwell, or going to my car as he was walking through the parking structure on his break.  He always took the time to say, "Hello.", "Have a good day.", "Have a good evening.", "Enjoy the weekend.", etc.

It is second nature to greet those you know and work with, and it's a very *unique* nature to greet those you don't know or work with  that you see in/out of the building in passing... which was uniquely Rey 😊  Other co-workers shared with me similar encounters they had with him which speaks of how he touched so many of us with just a "Hello."... "Have a good day."... "Have a good evening."... "Enjoy the weekend."

I am certain he will be at heavens gates greeting all who enter!🙏

May he rest in peace and may God's peace and comfort be with you all especially in this season.

I met Rey while in the NAVY at SIMA San Diego.  His gental and laid back personality was what drew me to him.  Then, I found out we liked the same music, smooth jazz.  We started hanging out at live music venues and concerts in the San Diego area with a small group from SIMA Supply.  Rey turned me on to specialty coffee back before Starbucks was a "thing".   We talked about opening up a coffee shop and calling it Steve Y Rey's Jazz Cafe.  I'm sorry that never happened but I'm still going to try to get it going.  If I can do it,  I'm going to name it Rey's Jazz Cafe in honor of my friend that I always took the time to see every time I was in San Diego.  I enjoyed Rey's spirit every time we were together whether he was running me around on the tennis court, watching Tiger Woods hit a golf shot on hole 2 at Torrey Pines from just a few feet away, chilling at a concert, drinking great coffee, going to a Padres game or having dinner with him and his wonderful family.  My wife and I were extremely sadden of the news but we can take solace in knowing that his spirit will remain in his family and friends and that heaven has gained a good man. Fair winds and following seas. Rest in peace my friend. 

My deepest sympathies and condolences to Rey's family. I remember Rey well as a friendly face, a dedicated public servant, and a proud family man. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort eventually in their memories and traditions of time together.

It was a pleasure working with Rey and getting to know him.  And,  its with fond memories that I will always remember him as a man who spoke his truth honestly and respectfully.  We all knew Rey was a man with good character and a strong work ethic.  He demonstrated this daily.  His true measure can be defined by what he valued  most in life,  his family.  What I remember when I think of him  is his unwavering devotion to his wife and children.  Such a great loss.  My deepest condolences to all who loved him.

I’ve known Rey Marientes n family since  1979. The Marientes family were more than just friends to me more like family . We all grew up together from junior high/ high school. Even though we all went our separate ways as to fulfill our futures, we never STOPPED keeping in touch with each other. If it’s not one of the Marientes it’s the other. Not only was Rey a brother to me his wife Susan was a dearest friend and as well like a sister. I’m going to miss Rey so much MY DEEPEST LOVE AND CONDOLENCES GOES OUT TO my dearest Brother Rey and his family... YOU WILL BE MISSED AND NEVER FORGOTTEN!!!!

My best memories of Rey was around the late 80's early 90's. Rey used to come visit my brothers and I at our house very often back in those days. As a young kid I always looked up to him. It was like having another older brother around. I believe he did not have one bad bone in his body. Always smiling and in a great mood. Basically he was a pleasure to be around. I remember him showing up to one of my school basketball games. I was in 8th grade if I remember correctly. It was cool having him there cheering me on, and I think he genuinely enjoyed being there. Weather it was playing softball in our neighborhood park or going to the movies, good times were had by all whenever he was around. I'm really going to miss him and the positivity he brought to everyone's life every time we were in his presence. Sue, Chrissy and Joey; let us know if you guys need anything. Love you guys. Rey, rest in peace big bro.  

I was blessed to have Rey as my trainer when I transferred to the Sheriff’s Records Warrants/Day Section. He was more than a trainer: he was a coach, a mentor, a comedian, and a friend. 

Rey’s world was large, but he also proved what a small and interconnected world this is. I quickly discovered that he went to the same high school as my brothers and my little sister, Montgomery High, and was quite familiar with the off-road area where my siblings and others liked to ride their motorcycles and off-road vehicles known as “The Pits.”    

Rey was a rare soul that got along with everyone.  Even if he couldn’t speak Tagalog, he was something of a polyglot; depending on the interests of whom he was speaking with, he could “speak” art, music, sports, movies, travel, food/restaurants, current events, etc.

He was also a consummate worker who never produced a sloppy work product and went the extra mile to help people who called our section.  It wasn’t unusual to get  callbacks from various folks who asked for Rey. We used to joke that everyone knew Rey. 

What will always remain with me, is how amazed Rey was by his loving and talented wife, Susan, and how proud he was of his children, Cristina and Joseph.  

I pray that Rey continues to expand his circle of friends and family ties, in the heavenly realms now.  And may he continue to help us all here with his prayers. 


I would cherish the last Christmas we had and the memories and laughter with your Uncle Carding... Rest in Peace and all our Prayers for you... We Love you... 

I am a coworker in the Records & ID Division of the Sheriff's Department. Rey and I shared a love for Ole' School R&B music. I called Rey my brother from another mother and father.   I received my last Ole' School R&B music email from Rey in May. I will truly miss his smile, swagger, and kind heart. My prayers for his wife and children.  

I’m Jossie Soriano, Rey’s co worker at the Sheriffs Dept Records  Division-Warrant Section till September 2012 .  It’s so sad that Rey left so early in life. He is such a very nice  and kind person .He carpooled me for months going to work  , for free . That’s how kind he is. He always share to me how he loves to be in San Francisco with the family .  I can never forget Rey in my life . To his wife and children, accept my warm condolence and prayers for the repose of his soul . “Rest In Peace now Rey. May perpetual light shine upon you . “ 

I’m so sorry for the loss of my co worker at the sheriffs dept ,warrant section . He had carpooled me for months , for free. That’s how kind and helpful he is . Very nice person .i can’t and will never forget him . My prayers goes out for the repose  of his soul and  to the bereaved family of Rey .
