Pleasant Grant Vause, 78, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away at his home on January 26, 2021. Graveside Celebration of Life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Tallahassee National Cemetery.
Pleasant was born in Tallahassee, FL, on August 4, 1942, to Claxton Vause, Sr. and Marcia Grant Vause. Pleasant served in the US Navy aboard the USS Page County LST from 1962 until 1965. After completing his military service, he felt God's call to full time Christian ministry and attended Tallahassee Community College and Mississippi College, majoring in Bible Studies. While attending Mississippi College, he met and married Diane M. Vause. He attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned his Master of Divinity in 1974.
Over the years, Pleasant pastored several churches in Florida and Georgia. One of his great honors was to officiate at the funerals of his Mother, Mother-in-law and Father-in-law. He and Diane also served five years ministering to children at the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. Pleasant eventually retired with 20 years service with the State of Florida.
Pleasant loved people and took time to talk to everyone, sharing his love for Jesus. He always held a close allegiance to his Sopchoppy roots, maintaining many long term relationships and his love for fishing on the Sopchoppy River. He loved music and was inspired to write many songs and sing and play his guitar in church. He and Diane enjoyed raising Yorkshire Terriers and shared their love with four yorkies of their own. Pleasant showered each of them with affection and happily attended to their every need.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claxton Vause, Sr. and Marcia Grant Vause; infant son, David Grant Vause; sister, Betsy Vause; and Brother-in-law, Buster Mathis.
Pleasant is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane M. Vause; sister, Almyra Mathis; brother, Claxton Vause Jr. (Vonita); and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
