Violet VanOsdol

Violet L. VanOsdol of Peoria, 100 years old, passed away peacefully at the Owens Hospice Home on February 4, 2021. She was born on October 25, 1920 on her family’s farm in Southern Illinois to Nellie and Charles Olinger. She grew up on the farm, but her life would take her on many travels coast to coast and international as well. She married Richard J. VanOsdol on August 10, 1941 in Decatur, Illinois. They were a handsome couple who loved to dance. Surviving are their 2 daughters, Marsha (Lee) Swardenski of Peoria and Debbie (Mike) Romanus of Carbondale, CO and son Richard C. VanOsdol of Peoria. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, one sister and one grandson.

Vi, as she was known by most, was a wife, mother of 3, grandmother of 8 and great-grandmother of 9. Throughout her life, her passion was always her family and it was her greatest joy as well. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and was simply a home maker extraordinaire. Putting her family and others first always came naturally to her. She was a woman of faith, a gentle and caring soul who loved unconditionally. She was simply the best mom ever!

Violet was a member of West Bluff Christian Church for over 50 years. At the time of its closing, she joined First Christian Church. She was a member of the Peoria Women’s Club and was honored to receive their Ambassador Award for outstanding service. She also volunteered at Proctor Hospital and at her children’s schools.

A private family service will be held at Woolsey Wilton Funeral Home with burial to follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens with Pastor Randy Williams officiating.
