Hilma Ruth Curtis was born June 10, 1030 in Beulah, ND to Albert Boeckel and Rose Doffee-Boeckel. She passed away at age 90 on February 19, 2021. Hilma married Leo Everett Curtis on September 21, 1952. They lived in Fairbanks Alaska for 13 years. She learned the baking and cake decorating art from the renowned Peggy Goldizen in Fairbanks. The family moved to Cheney WA in 1968. She worked as a baker, including 14 years at Eastern Washington State College where she baked for students and the Seahawks, retiring in 1993. In 2016, Leo and Hilma moved to Still Waters Adult Family Home where she continued to share her faith with residents and staff.
Hilma is survived by Milton Curtis, married to Jeannie living in Kenmore, WA; Merlon Curtis, married to Marry Ellen living in Spokane Valley, WA; Mark Curtis, married to Amy living in Spokane, WA; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; Loretta Campio, sis living in CA; and Doris Beckman, sister living in Idaho. Hilma was preceded in death by Albert Boeckel, father; Rose Doffee-Boeckel, mother; Bertha Oberlander-Boeckel, step-mother; Violet Neubauer, sister; Elaine Walker, sister; Bernice Winkler, sister; and Albert Boeckel Jr, brother.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home and online through Zoom at:
