Scott Allen Winter was born on July 16th, 1965. He was adopted at twenty-days old to Darles (Hotchkiss) Winter and Marvin Winter. He grew up in Huron, South Dakota where he completed his high school education. Scott went on to attend Mitchell Vo-Tech in the culinary program. He was an excellent cook and found enjoyment in creating dishes. Scott married Tammy Anderson on November, 22nd 1985. They had two daughters, Hillary and Hope. Scott’s charismatic personality, welcoming smile, and genuine laugh were some of the wonderful things about him. His sarcasm and quick-wit would always keep you on your toes. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never took life too seriously. Scott cared deeply for those around him. He took all that life threw at him and persevered. Scott was an excellent caretaker and able to make a house into a home with ease. After many years together, he was united in a civil union to Rick Shelby on September 1st, 2013 in Clarksville, TN. They were later married on November 1st, 2016 where they made Scottsbluff, NE their home. The caretaker role changed when Scott was diagnosed with cancer. Scott fought hard, but ultimately lost his battle on March 31st, 2021. He will be remembered, loved, and missed by many.
He is survived by his husband, Rick Shelby of Scottsbluff, NE; his mother, Darles Gilbert of Huron, SD; two sisters, Rhonda (Mike) Manning of Minneapolis, MN and MaryAnn Winter of Huron, SD; two daughters Hillary (Marcus) Robinson, of Aberdeen, SD and Hope Winter of Aberdeen, SD; four grandchildren, Drake Winter, Lauryn Robinson, Lexi Robinson, and Liv Robinson all of Aberdeen, SD; life-long friend, Darbi Spain of Tennessee; as well as his beloved cat, Sophia.
He was preceded in death by his father; his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Scott passed away March 31, 2021 at his home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm at the Carpenter Center in Terrytown, NE. If you wish, condolences can be sent to 1217 3rd Avenue #4 Scottsbluff, NE 69361. Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
