Ann Virginia Stein, age 99, departed this life on April 14, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 13, 1921 in Alexandria, Virginia to the late Roscoe and Evelyn Benjamin Scutt. In addition to her parents and her daughter, Marlene, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, William "Bill" Charles Stein. She is survived by her daughter, Ginny McGirk of Spring Hill,TN; her grandson, Charles McGirk and his wife, Lynda of Clearwater, FL; her grandson, Sean McGirk and his wife Juliann, also of Spring Hill; her great-grandson, Justin McGirk; her great-granddaughters, Jessica Woodcum, Sarah, Katie, and Charley McGirk; and her great-great-grandchildren, Shanalee and Cody Hedrick.
Ann married her lifetime sweetheart, Bill, September 28, 1942 just before Bill shipped out for his four year tour of duty in World War II. While he was overseas she worked for the Navy Department in Washington, DC. Later she was a Comptroller in the Retirement Department at the American Red Cross for 10 years, retiring at age 49. After retirement she and Bill moved to Florida where they resided for 45 years before moving to Spring Hill, TN, six years ago to be near family where she resided with her daughter until passing. Ann loved music, singing and playing the ukulele with her great-granddaughters. She was a gifted seamstress starting at an early age, making clothing for her children, Girl Scouts and costumes for the many church plays she wrote for Christmas and other special occasions. Ann was always active in her church, sang in the choir and served as an usher for many years. She was an exceptional cook and was known for her apple pies. She and her husband Bill are published authors, writing a book about Bill’s World War II experiences, “I Was a Navy Amphib” and writing many books about her family history. She and Bill had a passion for ballroom dancing until age 90.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from one o'clock until three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
