Nelma Ward Ausley

Nelma Ruth Ward Ausley passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wyman Ausley; her daughter, Sharon Ausley Gaines; and her parents, Wilmer & Easter Ward. Loving survivors include her daughter, Nancy Ausley; grandson, Hunter Gaines (Brooklyn); and great grandchild, Baby Gaines.

Mrs. Ausley was born in Flomington, Alabama and grew up in Florala. As a teen she won the Miss Florala Award. She was very involved in the community and her church. She taught Sunday School for 50 years, and was a member of Court St. Baptist Church, Woodley East Baptist Church, McGehee Road Baptist Church, and Heritage Baptist Church. She was a member of the Canterbury Bells Garden Club, and a volunteer at Baptist Hospital for 20 years. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was recognized by MACOA in 2018 as a Senior of Achievement Honoree. She loved to travel, and even visited all 50 states. A part of a special group of ladies, “the Card Group”, they visited and enjoyed their time together. Mrs. Ausley worked for over 40 years at Regions Bank until her retirement. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be at 9:00am on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Leak Memory Chapel with a service at 10:00am. Rev. Teman Knight officiating. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will accept flowers, but memorials may be made to Heritage Baptist Church or Baptist Hospice in memory of Mrs. Nelma Ausley.
