Gail was born to parents Joseph McMahon and Flora Dill in Pittsfield, MA on June 3, 1937. She grew up in the Berkshires, graduated from Pittsfield High School and spent much of her adult life in the area. She always considered Pittsfield her home. She and her husband Bernie Savary were married on October 12, 1957 and had been married 63 years when he passed away last year. Gail worked at New England Telephone in Pittsfield as a phone operator for many years. She was also a dedicated homemaker, but by far she considered raising her four children to be the most important role she had.
After her husband’s retirement, Gail and Bernie moved to Port Orange, Florida, where they have lived for more than 25 years. In April, 2020 they moved together to Brookdale Senior Living. She continued to be committed to and involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also an avid bingo and cards player—and was happy to get a chance to visit “the Penny Slots” or a casino every now and then as well.
Gail is survived by three of their children including Kevin Savary (Donna) in South Daytona, FL., Kim Stall (Rick) in East Chatham, NY and Kristine Bradley (John) in Port Orange, FL, her brother Michael McMahon, her daughter-in-law Darlene Savary in Posen, IL, her sister-in-law Marilyn Archey (Frank) of Port Orange, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Bernie, her son Kirk Savary, her parents, her brother Barry McMahon (Anne), her sister-in-law Joan Bauchiero (Joseph), her brother-in-law Clifford Savary (Marilyn), a great-grandson, a niece and a nephew.
Services are being handled by Volusia Memorial Funeral Home at 4815 South Clyde Morris Boulevard in Port Orange. A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 26th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, her family requests individuals to consider a donation to either the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nmss.org) or to Second Harvest Food Bank (www.feedhopenow.org).
