Nila Jean Crawford, 100, died at home in Fort Wayne on June 2, 2021. She was born in Grandview, Indiana to the late Philip and Alice Freshley. She moved to South Bend, attended high school and subsequently met and married Owen H. Crawford. After moving to Fort Wayne in 1960, NIla became involved with Newcomers and welcomed literally hundreds of people to the city. She was a member of Art League and Good Shepherd UMC where she actively served in UMW. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross for numerous years. But her greatest joys were her family, faith, dear friends, the lake, traveling, and playing bridge.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Greg (Nancy) Crawford of Sonoma, California; daughter, Nancy Reitenour of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Brian (Kristina) Reitenour; Leslie (Robbie) Smith; Amy (Jared) Crawford Schonig; Matthew Crawford (Jamie); and great grandchildren; Trevor and Olivia Smith, Quinn Reitenour, and Jackson Schonig. Nila was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Owen and her son-in-law, Earl Reitenour.
