Major James Frederick Smith

Promoted to Glory from the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre on Saturday, September 11, 2021, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Joan (née Hunter) for 64 years. Brother to Ronald Smith of Barrie, Ontario, and Joy Van Herwaarde of Edmonton, Alberta. Loving father of Ken and his wife Beverley of Stoney Creek, David and his wife Anna of St. Catharines, and Bob and his wife Heather of Ajax. Proud grandfather of Stephanie, Colin, Megan, Jeremy, Laura and Amy, and great-grandchildren Alison and Larry. Major Smith served with his wife in various appointments with The Salvation Army in Canada for almost 40 years until their retirement in 1996. He was known as a sensitive, caring man who loved God and always ministered with grace and compassion to all with whom he came into contact. A service of celebration will be held at The Salvation Army Scarborough Citadel, 2021 Lawrence Ave E, Toronto, on Friday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m., preceded by a time of visitation at 1:00.
