Aylmer Arthur Dunlop

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Aylmer A. Dunlop who passed away on Saturday November 20, 2021.

Prior to his passing, Aylmer wrote the following obituary which we are pleased to share with you:

I was born in Prairie Grove Dec. 2, 1922. I served in the Armed Forces for 4 years from 1941-1945. I was in the Life Insurance business for about 10 years & then 18 years in the Pharmaceutical Industry. I spent the last 12 years of my career as General Manager of Brathwaites Drugs Wholesale Ltd. and retired in 1988.

Left to mourn is my loving wife & very good friend, Arlene. Arlene, I want you to know that I love you & appreciated the great times we had together. Continue to travel to the places we loved plus others.

Also left to mourn are my three sons: Denis (Laurie) & Richard (Irene) of Saskatoon & Gary (Mitzi) of Olds. To my sons who were my best friends, I love you & am proud of you all very much. You each were special in your own way. I was a lucky man to have you three as well as your marvelous wives.

Also left to mourn are my loving grandchildren, Lori Dunlop & Steven Dunlop of Winnipeg; Holly Dunlop, Sarah (Joe) Waldherr & Ninette (Chris) Moore of Saskatoon & Robin (Tracy) Dunlop of Chicago. I hope I leave you some good memories. Also, my precious great grandsons & great granddaughters Noah, Isaiah, Faith, Eleisha, Elizabeth, Jonah, Daniel, Ryan & Anna of Saskatoon as well as Alyssa of Winnipeg & Oliver of Chicago. I would have loved to see you all grow up. Also, my sisters in law, Hazel Dunlop of Winnipeg & Roberta (Lloyd) Higdon of Brosseau Alberta & many Nieces & Nephews from all over.

May all of you, young & old, have a great life. To Gilbert Berard and Ray & Louise Tetreault, your friendship meant so much. A special Thank You, Louise, for the many hours we spent on the phone and a special farewell to two good friends Pat Cain and Ken Berthiaume. To my friends I met at Paradise Village, Fred Douglas Place, Kiwanis Chateau, Place Promenade & locals on the Walkways, many from all over the world, & my Indigenous friends, thank you for your friendship. I will miss you all. Miss me - but let me go.

All my family who preceded me, in order of their passing, my sister Dorothy, my father, my sister Kathleen, my brothers Jack & Frank and the most wonderful mother in the world, Olive, my brother Norman & my sister Ida, my sister in-law Therese, my 1st wife Denise. As well as my grandson David & my great grandson Caleb. Being the last in a family is lonely sometimes, no sibling to share with. I missed them all.

I and my family wish to extend thanks to my family doctor, Dr. I. Kasloff and my Cardiologist Dr. R. Kroeker, as well as the ER staff at Health Sciences Centre and the staff of 3U10 at Seven Oaks Hospital.

One last thought is about the racism around us. We are very lucky to live in a country and city with so many wonderful people from so many countries as well as Indigenous Peoples. Love them and respect them like you would like to be treated. Don’t forget many of our ancestors were immigrants also.

As per my wishes, Cremation will have taken place. A Gathering for Remembrance and to say Farewell will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday December 3, 2021 at Green Acres Funeral Home with Interment at the Mausoleum. Anyone wishing to attend must provide proof of vaccination and photo ID. Those unable to attend in person but wish to join virtually are invited to email [email protected] for the Livestream link.
