Alvin Dow "Tot" Atkinson, 90, of Elkmont passed from this life Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his home.
He was born March 5, 1920, in Limestone County to Henry and Octavia Hall Atkinson. A member of Sandlin Road Church of Christ, Mr. Atkinson was also a former elder of Lock's Cross Roads Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Atkinson was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Georgia Robinson Atkinson; stepson, Steve Lauderdale; sisters, Gladys Gowen, Juanita Hargrove and Mattie Lou Hogan; brother, Tillman Atkinson; and three half-sisters, Ruby Pressnell, Mamie Vaughn and Eurline McMillan.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lauderdale Atkinson; brother, Grady Atkinson of Elkmont; daughter, Peggy Bennett of Tampa, Fla.; son, Harold Atkinson and wife Barbara of Elkmont; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Dwight Lauderdale and wife Barbara of Jacksonville, Fla., Stanley Lauderdale and wife Janie of Elkmont, Annette Powers and husband Curtis of Elkmont; eight step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6-9 tonight at McConnell Funeral Home.
The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at McConnell Funeral Home with Joe Olson and Mike Owens officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brent Bennett, Zack Greene, Stanley Atkinson, Ray Atkinson, Dwight Thompson and Curtis Powers. The honorary pallbearer is Stanley Lauderdale.
