Jefferson Lloyd Sugg, 85, of Cary, NC, passed away on August 8, 2010. A native of Smithfield, NC, he was the son of Rose Gordon Sugg and Burton Whitfield Sugg of Smithfield. He was a veteran of WWII serving on a LCI 410 as a First Class Boatman’s Mate and participated in the Invasion of Normandy. After discharge from the Navy, he attended North Carolina State University and graduated in 1951. He was one of the first land developers in Cary in the 1950’s and continued to develop properties into the 1980’s.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Waddell Sugg. He is survived by four children, Chesley Sugg of Cary, Jeanne Sugg Doty of Shelby, NC, Amy Sugg Allen of Carthage, NC and Gigi Sugg Jones of Fuquay-Varina, NC; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and longtime companion, Nancy Wilson of Holly Springs, NC.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, August 11, 2010 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.
