Eunice G. “Ann” Cates, age 83, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the NMMC in Tupelo. She was born June 15, 1927 to W.W. Russell and Clemence Carriere Russell. She was a resident of the Black Zion Community and a member of the Black Zion Baptist Church. She was retired from Action Industries, where she worked for 22 ½ years. She loved her family deeply.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Armstrong and Rev. Kenneth Corley officiating; burial will follow in the Black Zion Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her son: Phil Cates and his wife Rebecca; two grandchildren: Claire and Cole Cates; three sisters: Kay Pena, Delois Buskirk and her husband Curt and Loretta Gafford; two brothers: Wylie Jr. Russell and wife Linda and Mike Russell and wife Nancy; her caregivers and best friends: Linda Dougherty, Geneva Browning and Sherry Loggin; a host of nieces and nephews and her three adopted sons: Kent Townsend, Randy Ferguson and Artie Prater.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Paul Cates, whom she was married to for 55 years; her In-Laws: Tommy and Ruth Cates and Christine Morris; her sisters: Norma Powell and husband Jewel, Kathryn Allen and husband George and Charlotte Graham and husband Harold; one brother: Sparky Russell and wife Laverne; two brothers in law: Horace Pena and I. B. Gafford, Jr.; two nieces and one nephew.
Pallbearers will be: Cole Cates, Bill Russell, Kelly Russell, Anthony Graham, Jerry Graham, Gary Gafford, Todd Buskirk and Chris Russell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday and from 10 to 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
