Dolores Allan left us on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the age of 98. Born in San Francisco on February 19, 1913, Dolores attended St. Paul's Grammar and High School, graduating in 1930. In 1941 she married James McGhie Allan, and the newly wed couple soon started a family that would eventually grow to include seven children.
A resident of Fresno for 56 years, Dolores was a Lifetime Member of the Saint Agnes Service Guild until her retirement at the age of 96 after 50 years of service. While raising her family, Dolores was a member and supporter of the St. Therese's Mother's Club, the San Joaquin Memorial Mother's Club, and represented the Dennis Uniform Company for 15 years, serving parochial grammar and high schools throughout the Valley. In 1994, the Volunteer Bureau of Fresno recognized Dolores as Volunteer of the Year.
Although she greatly enjoyed the camaraderie and satisfaction of serving as a volunteer, the true joy in her life was her family.
In her last few years, Dolores received the devoted attention and care of Jeffrey Terry and Ramona Burnley, for which the family is extremely grateful.
Heaven will now surely be organized in a different fashion with her presence there.
She and Jim, who pre-deceased her in 1979, are survived by their seven children and their spouses, each of whom brought a special gift to her life: Patty Allan of Mountain View; Kathleen Allan and Walt Bispo of Fresno; Terry and Joe DeYoung of Pleasanton; Jim and Debra Allan of Lafayette; Maryclaire and Steve Polacek of Fresno; Bill and Maureen Allan of Walnut Creek; and Sharon and Gene Borré of Fresno. From this generation, Dolores enjoyed the year-round visits of 12 grandchilden; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
