Joseph Quinn Atchley, 83, of Fort Wayne, passed away, Saturday, December 17, 2011. He was born on December 14, 1928 in Illinois, to the late Bryan and Nellie (Sullivan) Atchley. He worked in preventative maintenance during his 43 years at Kunkle Industries. He was a proud member of the Church of Christ-Harlan, IN. He enjoyed writing poetry, playing music, woodworking, yard work, and traveling, but most of all he loved his family dearly. Surviving family include his wife whom he married on May 26, 1950 and spent 61 years together, Marlene O. (Wehrly) of Ft. Wayne; children, Jolene (James) Beerbower of Woodburn, Larry (Deb) Atchley of Cecil, OH, David (Paula) Atchley of Woodburn, Julie (Mike) Mason of Woodburn; siblings, Opal Gentry, Jean (Charles) Tichnor, Millard (Connie) Atchley, Dwayne (Vermalene) Atchley; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by a sister, Alma Eades, and brothers, Chester and Dale Atchley.
A funeral service will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Church of Christ-Harlan, IN, 17108 S.R. 37, Harlan with visitation one hour prior to services. Visitation will also be from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Ft. Wayne. Memorials may be made to Harlan Christian School- Children’s Playground Fund.
