Robert Bernard Appel, Jr. of Madison, VA passed away in the Martha Jefferson Hospital, Saturday, December 31, 2011. Mr. Appel was born to Robert B. Appel, Sr. and Mary Agnes Smith Appel in Rhode Island, October 20, 1948, served his country in the U.S. Air Force and retired from American Woodmark Corporation in Orange, VA.
Surviving Mr. Appel is his wife Linda Appel of Madison, VA; his step-son (whom he was extremely proud of), S-Sgt. Logan Saunders and his wife Mindy; his step-daughter, Samantha; his siblings, Richard Appel of California, Nancy Appel of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael Ellis of Virginia Beach, VA and Gina Colegrove of Maryland; his step- father, Richard Ellis of Maryland and his grandchildren, Cristopher Batten, C.J. Batten, Branden Batten, Connor Roberts and Cora Saunders. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Ellis.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Clore-English Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date in the Culpeper National Cemetery.
