Ellen Westerman Brashares died on September 5, 2012. She was born on a bright moonlit night October 6, 1922 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to W. Scott Westerman and Frieda Wuerfel. She was proceeded in death by her parents and her husband and her sister Joanne Feely. Ellen graduated magna cum laude from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio. She did graduate studies at Northwestern and IUPI. On August 29, 1945, Ellen married Rev. Wesley E. Brashares with whom she shared forty four happy parsonage years before his death in 1989. Ellen is survived by five children, nine granddaughters, one grandson and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother W. Scott Westerman, Jr. and ten nieces and nephews including her sister’s three sons. Ellen was employed as a substitute teacher in the communities where her husband served as pastor but her priority job was at home as wife, mother, and homemaker and in the church and community as a volunteer. After her children graduated, she had a career in fashion for 9 ½ years at Hudsons. The legacy for which Ellen will always be remembered is based on her credo to serve God fully and make every human encounter one that expresses love, encouragement and affirmation of others.
