ALLEN, BARBARA ANN WILSON "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8 On March 28, 1939, Sister Barbara Ann Wilson Allen was born to the late Bennie and Barbara Evans Wilson. She was preceded in death by her son, Desmond Allen, and her brother Victor Evans. Barbara was reared in Birmingham, Alabama and confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Saint James Baptist Church. Still early in life she joined the Lily Grove Baptist Church under Rev. Ambus Hill. Later in life she united with Tabernacle Baptist Church and subsequently joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Pratt City, under the pastorate of Rev. T. L. Lewis. Ms. Allen served faithfully at Bethel until her health declined. She was a studious member of the Willie Hawkins Bible Class and eagerly anticipated sharing the Word of God with her class each Sunday morning. Ms. Allen's formal education was received from Lincoln Elementary School and A. H. Parker High School class of 1956. After high school she matriculated and graduated from Booker T. Washington Business College. In 1960, Barbara married George Allen and their union produced two loving children, Desmond and Stacy Allen. Barbara was a caring, concerned and compassionate individual. Her love for others was apparent and evident in her chosen career. For thirty-two years she worked as a social worker for Urban Ministries, Inc. and considered her fellow co-workers as part of her extended family. Ms. Allen loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul and might. One of her favorite passages of scripture was Psalm 137. The 4th verse poses the question, "How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land? We are confident, that as she completed her earthly journey on Monday, September 17, 2012, she was greeted by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that great cloud of witnesses singing the Lord's songs in the New Jerusalem. Treasured memories shall eternally be cherished by her dedicated and dutiful daughter, Stacy Allen-Logan, three grandchildren, Andrea and Adrienne Allen and Joel Allen-Logan; one great granddaughter, Taliah Owens; one daughter-in-law, Janice Allen; three God-children, Charles Perkins, Linda Jackson, and Dr. Cathy McElderry; special cousins, Johnnie Mae Hatcher (CH), Overseer Carrie Lloyd; John (Mary), Theodore (Barbara), Wilmore (Julia), Abraham (Elvira), Richard and Tyrone Evans; extended family members, Kelly Hawkins, Dominique Prince, Rev. LaChaune Slater, Rev. Harrison Carson, and a host of other relatives and friends; and the Willie Hawkins Sunday School Class and the entire Bethel Nation. Visitation will be Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 2:00-7:00 pm at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. Services will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Bethel Baptist Church, 3321 Main Street, Adamsville, AL 35005.
