& Beulah Morris of Newellton, Louisiana and died peacefully on November
14th, 2012. Felice was a graduate of Louisiana State University and at the
age of 49 received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of
North Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry
Horwits, who was the love of her life, and her sister Jenny Ross. She is
survived by her beloved daughters Jane Smith and husband Buddy, Peggy
Lohr and husband Bill, five grandchildren, Durrell Smith and wife Michelle,
Jean Smith Schendle and husband Matthew, Kyle Smith and wife Holly,
William Lohr and James Lohr and six great-grandchildren, Cooper, Lily, &
Margot Schendle, Lydia and Carter Smith, Juliana Smith, and niece Carlotta Marks. Her name Felice means happiness and she lived by that every day of her life. She loved her family more than anything in the world and was adored by them in return. Her friendly nature endeared her to the masses, finding lasting friendships in elevators, restaurants and even bathroom stalls. Her teaching career expanded 37 years, both in Newellton and Dallas, and her students kept in touch with her throughout the decades. She was devoted to volunteerism, winning the NCJW Make a Difference Award in 1993 and was honored by the DISD as Administrator of the Year. Her storytelling, gumbo recipe, shrimp dip and fudge brownies were legendary. If someone asked us why we think our mother lived so long, we would say it was because she loved life so much, always seeing the best in everyone, loving every minute of every day that she could be with family and friends. There will never be another Felice. We were so blessed to have her in our lives and we feel so lucky that she was ours.
Our special thanks to those who helped care for our Mother…Five Star
Premier, Spring Creek Gardens, Total Patient Care, and Hospice Plus.
