Age 83, died December 6, 2012 at Lansing Sparrow Hospital, “after the long goodbye of Alzheimer’s.” Betty was born in Evanston, IL, July 3, 1929 to Clinton A. and Ruth S. (Stuart) Hall. When she was age seven, the family moved to Lowell, MI where she graduated from high school in 1947. She then attended Michigan State, receiving a BA in 1951 and an MA in 1958, both in Elementary Education. She married Elvin E. “Tut” Tuttle, June 23, 1951. Betty was a housewife and mother to two children. She also taught Pre-school and Co-operative Nursery School part time for twelve years, and Kindergarten for 20 years in the Lansing School District from 1970 until her retirement in 1991. Betty was a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a Red Cross blood donor, having donated 18 gallons. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with her grandchildren and doing volunteer work, especially since her retirement. Betty’s primary hobby was bell collecting and she was a long-time member of the American Bell Association. She also had local and national memberships in LSEA, GLARSP, CMAEYC, CMCCN and Phi Delta Kappa. She was predeceased by one brother, Thomas S. Hall. She is survived by Elvin, her husband of 61 years; brother Dr. Robert C. (Linda) Hall of Indiana, daughters Linda K. (Jerry) Jacobs and Heather S. (Tony) Caterina; grandchildren Katrina Jacobs, Holly (Steven) Hetherington, and Rebecca and Michael Caterina. After organ donation, her body was cremated. Visitation will take place 2-4 & 6-8P.M on Sunday, December 9th at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912, and one hour prior to the Memorial Service which will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 10th, at Pilgrim Congregational UCC, 125 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, or to the charity of your choice, in memory of Betty Tuttle.
