Jack was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during WWII. He loved airplanes and flying, he later became a pilot, served as a FAA Inspector and supervisor in the aviation department. He also held the distinguished position of a Forest Ranger and machinist. Jack loved to work with his hands: if an industry needed a tool that no one made, Jack would go home and make the tool. He also loved fishing and hunting, but most of all he loved his family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kim Allen Massey; a grandson, Shane Massey; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Massey .
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sarah Josephine Massey; his children, Beverly Terpening of Panama City, FL, John (Francie) Massey of Kansas City, KS, Barbara (Jim) DeRuiter of Panama City, FL, Beth (Doug) Massey-Price of Pensacola, FL, Jerry (John) DeSha of Portales, NM, and Dana (Mark) Massey-Hill of Clovis, NM; grandchildren, Rodney Terpening, Shelly McNaron, Clint McCormick, Heather Massey Petry, Erin Massey O’Rourke, John Brian Massey, Dustin Price, Kimberly Price, John Forrest DeSha, Sarah DeSha, Matti DeSha, Alex Massey and Rhiannon Massey-Hill; 19 great grandchildren; brothers, Donald Massey and Lamar (Linda) Massey, all of Ideal, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 2 PM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 6 until 8 PM.
