Bonnie Louise Bates – Sharpe, age 70, died on December 15, 2012 at her home in River Bend, North Carolina.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 17, 1942 to the late Dr. Harlow Franklin Bates and Alice Allen Bates.
Bonnie graduated from Birmingham High School in Birmingham, Michigan in 1959, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1963 and a Master of Arts degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan in 1977.
Bonnie enjoyed a 20 year career as a teacher of speech and language impaired children. She worked for the Waterford Schools in Waterford, Michigan until her retirement in 1995.
She is survived by her husband Charles W. Sharpe of River Bend, North Carolins; her sister, Mary Damanskas (Husband Dr. John Damanskas) of Fenton, Michigan; her sister, Elizabeth Johnson (Husband Walter Johnson) of San Diego, California: her daughter Maria Daphne Kazanis of Verona, New Jersey and grandson George Tamburino: her daughter Dr. Demitra Christina Kazanis of Northville, Michigan and son-in-law Dr. Joe Gemmete, granddaughters Zoe and Anna Gemmete.
Bonnie was very active in book discussion groups, knitting groups, antique groups, and the Mermaids of New Bern, and she was a Master Gardner. She volunteered at the Red Caboose Library in River Bend.
Memorial contributions may be made to Craven County Hospice, or the Red Caboose Library in River Bend.
A Celebration of Life will be held on a date to be announced.
