Ada was born in Mobile, AL, February 7, 1912, where she met and married US Coast Guard Commander M. H. Griffith, lovingly known to his family as Poppie. Poppie was truly the love of Ada’s life. Ada and Poppie had one beautiful daughter, the late Jeanne Marie Griffith Robinson. With Poppie’s long career in the Coast Guard, the family lived in many locations, including Atlantic City, NJ, and Coral Gables, FL, where Ada owned and managed a florist shop. When their daughter began college at Florida State University, they moved to Tallahassee in 1957. Ada opened the first ever ceramics studio in Tallahassee where she taught classes as well as sold ceramics. She also volunteered her time and taught ceramic classes at East Hill Baptist Church where she was a member for many years. Her knowledge of ceramics was of such depth that she served as a judge at ceramic shows all over the country. Ada was a member of the Eastern Star and Worthy Matron of the Order of the Amaranth. In 1983, Ada bought a home at Alligator Point Beach where she and Poppie lived happily together until his health forced them to move back to Tallahassee. As Poppie’s health declined and until his death, Ada provided him with around the clock loving care and comfort.
After Poppie’s death Ada made the decision to move to Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee where she happily lived from 1990 until her death. Ada loved living at Westminster. She made many friends there and it seemed as though everyone from residents to staff knew who she was. This became even more apparent after her grandson obtained for her an electric scooter chair. At that point, there was no keeping her in her apartment. Ada loved joining her many friends for teas, parties and games whenever and wherever she could. This same grandson also bought Ada a cell phone and taught her to text. Of course, this was no easy task since Ada completely lost her hearing about 6 years ago. Ada absolutely fell in love with the new toy right off and used it constantly to keep the family informed as to where she was heading or what she was up to. As you can imagine the family grapevine was once again active and we all loved it. We now had a way to stay in touch with her even when we could not be there physically.
Ada made the comment many times to her family that the life she led was exceptional and the Lord truly blessed her with a loving family and many wonderful years on this earth. However, it is the members of this family that have been truly blessed by having such a wonderfully kind, strong and loving Grandmother. We will miss her more than anyone really knows right now, because the truth is Ada was the catalyst that held this family together. She was always there for each and every one of us whatever the need happened to be. The importance of family was first and foremost to her and apparent in everything she did in her life. Our lives are truly enhanced for having known and been loved by our Grandmother, Ada; a deep and honest love that came straight from her great big heart and the God she dedicated her life to.
Ada is survived by her family of 3 grandsons and granddaughter-in-laws, Mike Robinson and his wife Carole of Valdosta, GA, Patrick Robinson and his wife Dianne of Monticello, FL, and Steve Robinson and his wife Rebecca of Woodland, CA; two great granddaughters Savanna Robinson and Elise Robinson; two great grandsons, Michael Robinson and his wife Susan, and Jarrod Ausum; two great-great granddaughters, Jessica Ausum and Tori Robinson; one great-great grandson, Trenton Ausum; a long-time loving family member, Janet Robinson; and one step-brother, Reverend J. D. Quinnelly and his wife Becky.
