Wilford (Will) T. Morgan, age 92, of Houston passed away Tuesday January 15, 2013 at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital in Houston. Will was born in Sturgis, Kentucky on September 30, 1920 to A. L. Morgan and Nell Yeargin Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother A. L. Morgan Jr., first wife Josephine T. Morgan, second wife Joyce Walker Morgan. He is survived by daughter Sherry Morgan Farabee and husband Stan of Houston, TX, by son Randolph (Randy) T. Morgan and loving companion Christy Shaw of Vidor, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Kimberly Beckham and husband Michael of Houston, TX and by Stephen Kyle Jones of Houston, TX. Extended living family include six great-grandchildren Madeline, Geoffrey, Zachary, Shelby, Mary, and MacKenzie; along with Sister-in-law Ophelia Thigpen, nephew Al Thigpen, niece Susan Van Bogelen and her daughters Anna Oliveras and Bethany Cox.
Will grew up in Beaumont and graduated from Beaumont High School in 1938. He served in the United States Navy as a pharmacist mate in World War II. During the war, Josephine came to teach under school Principal A. L. Morgan in Beaumont. Through A. L.’s encouragement Will and Josephine grew to love one another and married on July 3, 1946. Will worked for several large companies in Beaumont before pursuing a teaching career like his father. His teaching career began at Juncker Elementary in 1959. After Juncker’s closing, Will moved on to Roy H. Guess Elementary where he taught math, science, and P.E. until 1971. Will and wife Josephine moved to Bay City, TX to both teach at Tenie Holmes Elementary. Will’s lifelong passion for tennis grew into business and training opportunities following his retirement from teaching school. Will coached the Bay City High School freshman tennis team, opened his own tennis shop, and became the tennis pro at Columbia Lakes Resort Community in West Columbia, TX.
Our dad’s life can be summed up by his love of God and examples he set forth for his family.
Visitation for Will Morgan will be Friday January 18, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Morgan will be Saturday January 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home followed by burial at Magnolia Cemetery.
