Born in Fall River the son of the late Edward J. and Maureen A. (Kelly) McGuinness, he was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a graduate of Bishop Connolly High School and received his bachelor’s degree from UMASS Amherst.
Mr. McGuinness was employed for New England Power for over 25 years and was a member of the Boiler Maker’s Union Local 29. He was also a United States Army Veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children Sean and Timothy McGuinness both of Fall River, a sister Kathleen Plasski and her husband Michael of Fall River; two brothers Brian J. McGuinness of Redding, CT and James E. McGuinness and his wife Robin of Tampa, FL; his mother in-law Beverly Flanagan of Fall River and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Paul M., Jeffrey M., and Edward J. McGuinness Jr.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 8am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his funeral mass at 9am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Thomas Chew Boys & Girls Club, 803 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02720.
