Jack Monroe Streckenbach, the first of five children of Roy and Anna Streckenbach, was born in Seattle, Washington on March 25, 1918, and died in Seattle, Washington on February 21, 2013. During his youth the family also lived in Montana and Wisconsin. After finishing high school in Green Bay, Wisconsin, he returned to Seattle and the University of Washington, where he majored in Aeronautical Engineering. He began work with the Boeing Company in 1940. Having a commission in the US Air Corps, he was called to active duty in June 1942, and was assigned as an Aeroengineer to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Prior to leaving for Dayton he married Dorothy Ruth (Dee) Bradley on May 30, 1942 in University Methodist Church. After 10 years with the Air Force, Jack returned to Seattle and Boeing in March 1953, and remained with that company until retirement in 1981 as a Senior Engineering Manager. Jack was a registered Professional Engineer in both Ohio and Washington states, a licensed pilot, and an Associate Fellow of the American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He and Dee and their two children, David and Anna, spent many years camping and hiking in the mountains of Washington. Jack was a leader in the Wilderness Pack Hiking Program of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Masonic Order, having been made a Master Mason in January 1945 while serving in the Air Corps. He was a member of all York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies and of the Nile Shrine in Seattle. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Order of Scotland. Jack served as President of the Past Masters Club of the Nile Shrine. In 2006 he received the Grand Master’s Achievement Award and was knighted by the York Rite Sovereign College of North America. He was installed as Jr. Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of F&AM of Washington for the 2007 and 2008 Grand Lodge Session. Jack is survived by his wife, Dee Streckenbach; great-grandson Jack; daughter Anna Pollino; grandson Geoffrey Hughes; granddaughter, Eirian Johnson; brother, Bruce; and sisters, Evelyn Jones and Jean Rizer. He was preceded in death by his son, David. A memorial service will be held at University Temple United Methodist Church on February 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Inurnment was at Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle, Washington. Memorials may be made in his name to the Church or to the Shrine Children’s Hospitals through Nile Shrine in Seattle.
